The Manager of Diversity & Inclusion will work closely with the Chief Talent Officer and head of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee on the continued development and execution of the firm’s diversity strategy as well as ongoing and new initiatives to continue to build and support a more inclusive culture. The position will have firm-wide responsibility to promote the awareness of diversity and inclusion initiatives both internally and externally. The Manager will collaborate closely with those responsible for recruiting and retention, training and development, practice development, and other related areas on issues of diversity and inclusion.
This position can be located in Houston, Dallas, New York or Washington DC.
Essential Functions:
Manage the firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for lawyers and staff, including implementation of strategy, best practices, programs, initiatives and training
Serve as an advisor to senior firm management in the area of diversity and inclusion and periodically report to the Management Committee
Promote a cohesive and inclusive overarching culture while maintaining a sense of local identity in various office locations
Collaborate with the Professional Development team on implementing training and development of firm leadership on diversity issues and all other diversity-related trainings for all attorneys and staff
Work closely with firm leadership and the Professional Development team to ensure the advancement and development of diverse attorneys throughout all stages of their career
Partner with the Recruiting team on initiatives to increase hiring of diverse candidates both in law schools and in the lateral market
Interact directly with diverse law student groups and facilitate partnerships with Bracewell to create a pipeline of diverse lawyers into the firm
Serve as the primary point of contact for the 1L Diversity & Inclusion Fellowship process working closely with the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Hiring Partners
Co-Chair the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and handle all tasks related to meeting planning and execution in conjunction with the Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and the Chief Talent Officer
Oversee the firm’s affinity networks to ensure programming and initiatives are aligned with needs of diverse attorneys
Partner with key clients on diversity-related initiatives; ensure positive external relationships with our clients that advance diversity and inclusion efforts in our firm and our communities
Serve as an advisor for all internal and external diversity-related communications and initiatives
Strategize with the Marketing and Communications teams to identify opportunities to increase the external visibility of the firm’s diverse lawyers through speaking engagements, articles, client alerts, external events
Work collaboratively with the relevant teams to develop and analyze metrics for measuring progress and effectiveness of the firm’s diversity strategy
Oversee database of firm diversity information used for completing various surveys in which the firm is requested to participate and partner with Marketing to respond to client requests for information on the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives
Take ownership of the firm's budget for diversity-related committees and affinity groups, industry memberships, and minority bar conference sponsorship
Collaborate with student and community organizations by serving as a liaison to them in their diversity and inclusion initiatives, events (internal and external) and other projects
Attend related conferences, meetings and other internal and external programs to acquire and report on practices, new approaches and other information to improve the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, management, organizational development or related field
Minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience planning and delivering programs and practices related to diversity and inclusion issues, preferably in a law firm or other professional services organization
Ability to work with attorneys, staff and management, demonstrating confidentiality, tact, and resourcefulness
The interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships and drive consensus; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, attorneys, office, firm and practice management
Outstanding creative thinking skills and the ability to offer new ideas and approaches to diversity and inclusion
Exceptional ability to communicate with varied audiences in writing, verbally and through presentations
Superb organizational and project management skills, coupled with a strong attention to detail and commitment to responsiveness
Ability to work independently and with a team, and to delegate and manage resources effectively
Ability and availability to travel in order to effectively implement the agreed upon strategy and the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.
