The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist is an exempt position responsible for managing certain specialized aspects of firm-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including, but not limited to, serving as a firm-wide DEI resource, overseeing the firm’s DEI programs and committees, and assisting the Diversity Department on all DEI functions and initiatives. This position reports to the Manager of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and works closely with attorneys and other firm administrative departments. Also, this position will support the work of the Inclusion Networks, including project management, budget management, and advice on DEI matters.
Essential Duties

Monitor, assess and oversee the firm’s diversity demographic data for the DEI Department for the purposes of recruitment, retention, and promotion. Calculate data, as appropriate, and use data to determine and forecast diversity and inclusion issues and trends. Respond to inquiries from Department and Section Leadership at the firm, attorneys, and administrative departments regarding data.

Respond to surveys from clients and other third parties, as well as RFPs regarding diversity data and initiatives.

Oversee and lead the Attorney Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (ADEIC)’s 10 Inclusion Networks, including the Asian/Pacific Islander Network, Black/African American Network, Latin/Hispanic Network, LGBTQ+ Network, Women’s Initiative, Working Parents and Caregivers Network, Veterans Network, Pipeline, First Generation Network and Next Generation Network. This includes recommending topics and issues to be covered during the meetings and active participation in all meetings. Identify opportunities for Inclusion Network collaboration internally or externally with clients. Maintain close contact with the attorneys who are the Inclusion Network co-chairs, which includes associates and partners. Respond to all inquiries regarding Inclusion Networks.

Collaborate and support the DEI Department in determining topics for programming, select, interview, and negotiate with panelists and speakers, as necessary, and identify and/or create written materials for programs, in compliance with CLE guidelines.

Monitor all firm diversity sponsorships, including identifying firm representatives to attend events, submitting sponsorship marketing materials, and tracking expenses related to sponsorships.

Assist in leading presentations on DEI at firm, for lateral attorney orientation and on law school campuses or elsewhere and serve as a firm diversity and inclusion representative.

Participate in recruitment of 1L Diversity Scholars by reviewing applications, interviewing, and recommending candidates for summer associate positions. Also, travel to law schools, as needed, for meetings, receptions, and presentations.

Research diversity and inclusion issues and trends, as needed, and draft memoranda to firm management with recommendations.

Collaborate with other firm administrative departments as needed, including Attorney Recruitment, Attorney Development, Business Development, Accounting, Human Resources, and Information Technology.

Collaborate with Diversity Department members and Attorney Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee Co-Chairs regarding firm diversity and inclusion goals and strategic plan.
Other Duties

Oversee and control all sponsorship requests from attorneys.

Travel up to 20 percent of the time.

Attend conferences and webinars related to trends in the diversity and inclusion field to continue education on diversity and inclusion.
Reporting Relationship
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist will report directly to the Manager of Diversity Equity and Inclusion.
Knowledge/Experience

Must have 3+ years of progressive related experience.

Must have knowledge and an understanding of DEI issues and trends.

Experience in a law firm or professional services environment a plus
Skills

Knowledge of MS Suite to produce quality written communications, including written documents in Word, presentations in PowerPoint and basic functions of Excel.

Education
Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree.
Physical Demands
Must be able to travel in the United States 20% of the time. Also, must be able to move around the office up to 15% of the time to oversee programs, attend meetings and make presentations as needed; remains stationary at least 85% of the time. This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the Firm attorneys, clients, and staff; This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time. Comfort with videoconference presentation is important.

This position can be located in Dallas, TX, Houston, TX or New York, NY.
Working Conditions
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Office environment with occasional overtime.
